Coincidentally, it was the day that Cubs broadcasters Len Kasper and Bob Brenly were broadcasting from the bleachers. And I have proof that I was near them, not to mention Tom Ricketts, one of the Cubs' owners:
If you click through that to my Twitpic page, you'll get a better look. We were five rows behind the broadcasters, and we probably got at least a little bit of airtime. (Alas, no one has called me to inform me they saw me on TV.)
After the game (which the Cubs won), my friends and I crowded into a bar to watch the end of the Blackhawks game (they won too). I had a few beers, had a lot of fun and even came home in one piece, though I'm fairly sunburned. (The weather report was very, very wrong. It was not 60 and cloudy. Not at all.)
But coincidentally, the game and associated festivities wind up as a sort of last blast, as my summer weekends are now more or less gone (save for Friday nights -- maybe). I was already planning to do some fill-in work at the church I play at, as the regular Sunday guy had surgery and will be out for a while. The guy they had planned to do the rest of the Masses ... has bailed. (That's bad. More on that in another post, which I've written and rewritten and finally dumped as things developed.) So I've agreed to step in and handle the rest of the Masses until the regular guy is good to work again.
In a way, it's twice the work -- but then again, I'm playing the same songs I played Saturday, on Sunday. So it's not too horrible. I lose some more free time, but I gain some more $ and keep playing the songs I like for a cause (you know, God) I love.
And if I have to take a break from weekend fun, isn't the best way to do so with a huge event, surrounded by friends and meeting celebs? Yeah, that's what I thought, too.
