So here's what I do now

I've been playing Saturday Masses at St. Mary's Catholic Church in Aurora for a while now, and I added the two Sunday Masses while the regular guy recovers from surgery. (His wife is my cantor at the Saturday Spanish Mass.)

Each weekend has two English Masses and two Spanish Masses. I play the organ for one English Mass and the piano for the other three.

This is the church:

The church was built in the 1870s and is the oldest Catholic church in Aurora. In the background is the rectory; a parish center (formally the parish school) sits behind the two other buildings.

I play this organ from about the 1930s:

And here's a picture of the choir loft where the organ is contained. The pipes are behind the back walls. A large stained glass window lets light into the loft.

I also play this gently used piano (that sounds better than it looks) for the other Masses and for bilingual Masses. It's towards the front of church, on the right side. Because the church isn't too big, the sound carries fairly well.

Here's the front of church after the Spanish Mass on Sunday:

At this Mass, 15 kids received communion for the first time, which is why there are so many people in front, taking pictures. The fabrics hanging from the lights were there for the Easter season, which concluded Sunday with Pentecost.

It's fun work, with good people. And, of course, we're all there for God, so with any luck He appreciates it too.

I took all photos on my new BlackBerry, which doesn't, sadly, have a flash.
